In these tough economic times, many students can't afford take expensive trips. The Excelsior would like to offer a few fun tips to fill your spring break.

1. Take a train to a stop you've never taken it to before.

2. Visit ethnic neighborhoods in place of visiting other countries (Jackson Heights = India, Arthur Avenue = Italy, Astoria = Greece).

3. Instead of Florida or the Hamptons, take a trip to Orchard Beach, which is about as secluded as a NYC beach gets.

4. Have lunch at City Island.

5. Ride the Staten Island ferry, a sweet and free boat ride.

6. Go to the Brooklyn Promenade at night at take pictures.

7. Take a bus trip via Megabus to a nearby Metropolitan area for a weekend on a budget - Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, or even Montreal.

8. Do a picnic at Prospect Park, play Frisbee after dessert, and then take a nap in the sun.

9. Catch the first showing of a movie on a Saturday or Sunday at a Loews Theatre.

10. Visit Virgin Records before it closes down.

11. Go to high end pastry shops and sample around or Visit Coney Island while
